Illuvium just dropped one of its biggest updates yet, and it’s a major win for both new users and long-time ILV supporters. The highly anticipated Staking V3 has officially launched on Base, marking a complete rebuild of the system—and a big shift away from Ethereum. Faster transactions, cheaper fees, seasonal rewards, and a brand-new dual model are now at the heart of Illuvium’s evolving ecosystem.
If you love staying ahead in the world of blockchain games, then this update is one you’ll want to understand inside and out.
A Fresh Start for Illuvium Staking
Illuvium’s move to Base is more than just a technical migration—it’s a full rethink of how staking should operate in a modern gaming ecosystem. Staking V3 replaces previous versions that lived on Ethereum and uses Base as the foundation for future growth.
The big headline? Dual rewards—and a lot more flexibility for players.
Stakers now earn:
ILV through revenue distribution
Shards, a new seasonal loyalty reward system
The ILV distributions operate through the RevDis (Revenue Distribution) protocol, which triggers every time the ecosystem generates 150 ETH of revenue. These payouts will resume once the Safety Pool reaches the requirements outlined in ICCP-22.
Shards, on the other hand, are a new addition—and they’re shaping up to be a core part of Illuvium’s long-term progression system.
Introducing Shards: Daily Rewards With Seasonal Depth
Shards are earned daily, and the amount depends on several factors:
The vault chosen
Amount staked
Lock duration
Available multipliers
Each season comes with its own rules, emissions, and even a unique leaderboard. Season 1 alone will distribute 15% of the total Shard supply, giving early stakers a compelling advantage.
Even more interesting is the weekly emission curve—Shard production decreases by 2.97% every Monday. This adds a strategic timing element and gives early participants better long-term rewards.
Two Vaults, Two Reward Styles
Staking V3 keeps the process simple by offering two vaults:
ILV Vault – earns 20 Shards per $1000 staked per day
ILV + ETH Vault – earns 80 Shards per $1000 staked per day
This gives users the flexibility to choose their preferred risk-reward mix. High Shard output? Go for ILV+ETH. A more straightforward, ILV-only strategy? Stick with the ILV vault.
And for those who want more? You can stack multipliers.
Lock Multipliers and OG Boosts
Staking V3 introduces a two-part multiplier system that rewards both commitment and loyalty.
1. Lock Multipliers
Users can lock their stake for 30–365 days, earning a multiplier between 1x and 2x. The longer the lock, the higher the multiplier. Once locked, it stays fixed until the end of the period.
2. OG Boost Multipliers
This is Illuvium’s way of rewarding early supporters. The system reviews your history from Staking V1 and V2 and assigns a multiplier between 1x and 2x, based on your tenure:
Diamond (3–4+ years): 1.75x–2.0x
Gold (2–3 years): 1.50x–1.75x
Silver (1–2 years): 1.25x–1.50x
Bronze (0–1 year): 1.0x–1.25x
The OG Boost is active for the first 120 days of Staking V3.
Combined Multipliers
You can stack both boosts—but not infinitely. The combined cap is 3x total, which keeps the system fair for newcomers while still rewarding veterans.
Why Illuvium Left Ethereum for Base
If you’ve spent any time in web3 gaming, you know how crucial speed and cost efficiency are—especially when mechanics involve daily rewards, compounding, and frequent interaction.
Illuvium’s shift to Base comes with several advantages:
Much lower gas fees
Faster confirmations
Better throughput for daily reward systems
Smoother UX for deposits, compounding, and withdrawals
To make migration simple, Illuvium is using a LayerZero-powered ILV Bridge. It allows users to move ILV between Ethereum and Base without friction, keeping everything trustless and compatible.
How to Start Staking ILV on Base
Getting started is straightforward:
Get ILV on Base– Or migrate your ILV from Ethereum using the ILV Bridge.
Open the Staking V3 interface– Found directly on the Illuvium site.
Connect a Base-supported wallet– MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, or any Base-compatible option.
Choose a vault– ILV only or ILV+ETH.
Select a lock period (optional)– Boost your Shard earnings with a 30–365 day lock.
Monitor your rewards– The interface shows your Shards, multipliers, lock progress, and leaderboard ranking.
Withdrawals depend on your lock status:
Unlocked positions can be withdrawn anytime.
Locked positions only unlock once the chosen period ends.
You can also compound unlocked earnings or re-lock after expiry.
Illuvium’s Expanding Gaming Universe
Illuvium isn’t just a staking platform—it’s one of the most ambitious ecosystems in the world of blockchain games.
The universe includes four interconnected titles:
Arena – competitive auto battler
Overworld – exploration-driven creature-collecting MMO
Zero – land management and resource production sim
Beyond – NFT collecting and social experience
Three of these games are free-to-play on the Epic Games Store, while Zero is available on Android and iOS as well. Beyond remains browser-based.
Assets, progress, and identity carry across all titles—one of the strongest implementations of cross-game utility in web3 today.
Final Thoughts
Illuvium’s shift to Staking V3 on Base is more than a technical upgrade—it's a strategic move that aligns perfectly with its long-term vision for a unified, high-performance blockchain gaming ecosystem.
Faster, cheaper, richer in rewards, and far more accessible, this update sets the stage for the next era of gameplay, ownership, and community participation.
And if you’d rather compete than stake, you won’t want to miss the Illuvium $250k Pro League 2025.
