GTA VI Pre-Load Begins Ahead of Launch

Grand Theft Auto VI is getting closer to its long-awaited launch, and Rockstar Games has given players another reason to prepare their consoles. Digital pre-loading will now begin on November 10, two days earlier than originally planned, allowing players to download the massive game ahead of its November 19 release. With a reported download size of up to 212 GB and digital pre-orders approaching the record set by Cyberpunk 2077, excitement surrounding Rockstar's next open-world adventure continues to grow.
The upcoming release is also attracting attention beyond traditional gaming communities. From real-world Vice City-themed events in Miami to blockchain gaming award competitions offering a PS5 Pro bundled with GTA VI, the launch is becoming one of the biggest entertainment events of 2026.
GTA VI Pre-Loading Begins on November 10
Rockstar Games has confirmed that digital pre-loading for Grand Theft Auto VI will start on Tuesday, November 10, bringing the original November 12 schedule forward by two days.
Players will need to prepare plenty of storage space. The pre-load download is expected to require up to 212 GB, although the final installation size may vary depending on the platform.
The pre-load schedule differs between PlayStation and Xbox:
PlayStation 5: November 10 at midnight local time.
Xbox Series X|S: November 10 at 12:00 AM GMT, equivalent to 1:00 AM CET and 7:00 PM ET on November 9.
Physical edition buyers will have to wait a little longer. The boxed version reportedly comes with a download code instead of a traditional game disc and is expected to become available through retailers starting November 12.
One important detail is that pre-loading does not provide early access. Players can download the files in advance, but the game will remain locked until its official launch.
When Does Grand Theft Auto VI Launch?
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on Thursday, November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar is using a midnight local-time release schedule, meaning players in different regions will unlock the game at different moments. For example, gamers in New Zealand will be able to enter Vice City several hours before players in Europe and the Americas.
There is currently no officially announced PC version, so the initial release is limited to current-generation consoles. GTA VI will also launch as a single-player experience.
Players can choose between two editions:
Standard Edition – $79.99: The base game.
Ultimate Edition – $99.99: Includes premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and additional story-related content.
There are also pre-order incentives. Purchases made before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack, while digital pre-orders additionally receive one free month of GTA+.
GTA VI Pre-Orders Approach Cyberpunk 2077 Record
The commercial performance of GTA VI is already attracting considerable attention. According to estimates from Sensor Tower, the game has reached approximately 7.71 million digital pre-orders, representing around $751 million in estimated revenue.
These figures cover digital purchases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, meaning physical pre-orders are not included.
PlayStation 5 currently accounts for the majority of estimated purchases:
PS5: 5.74 million pre-orders, worth approximately $559 million.
Xbox Series X|S: 1.97 million pre-orders, worth approximately $192 million.
This represents a roughly 74% to 26% split between the platforms.
The momentum is particularly impressive considering that GTA VI reportedly gained another 790,000 digital pre-orders in just one week. On October 20, the estimated total stood at 6.45 million copies and $630 million in revenue.
The game is now approximately 290,000 pre-orders away from the reported record held by Cyberpunk 2077, which passed eight million pre-orders before its 2020 release.
Sensor Tower estimates that GTA VI could reach as many as 25 million pre-orders by launch day. However, these numbers remain third-party estimates rather than officially confirmed sales figures from Rockstar or Take-Two.
Take-Two Earnings Report Arrives Before Launch
Another important date for the gaming industry is November 9, when Take-Two Interactive will publish its fiscal second-quarter financial results.
As Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two will provide an update on its financial performance for the three months ending September 30. The report will not include GTA VI sales, but it represents the final major financial update before the highly anticipated launch.
Investors and fans will likely pay close attention to any comments about the game's release plans and the company's expectations for the coming months.
In its fiscal 2026 results published on May 21, Take-Two projected $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion in net bookings for fiscal 2027.
CEO Strauss Zelnick previously highlighted the importance of the upcoming release, stating that the company expects fiscal 2027 to establish new operating performance records, driven by GTA VI and the wider game portfolio.
Considering the previous delays, the November 9 report will be an especially interesting moment for anyone following the development timeline.
Miami Celebrates GTA VI With Real-World Events
Rockstar's marketing campaign is also extending beyond trailers, screenshots, and digital promotions.
Miami, the real-world inspiration behind Vice City, is preparing several events connected to the game's launch.
On November 6, downtown Miami nightclub E11EVEN will temporarily transform into NINE1NINE, a fictional club featured in GTA VI's version of Vice City. The one-night event will include a live performance from Flo Rida.
Another event is planned at Club Space on November 22, just three days after the game's release. Called The Vault, it will continue the celebrations surrounding Rockstar's new open-world adventure.
These events highlight how GTA VI has become more than just another video game release. The franchise has developed into a major cultural phenomenon, with its fictional locations and characters influencing entertainment, music, fashion, and online communities.
What Players Can Expect From GTA VI
Grand Theft Auto VI takes players to Leonida, a fictional American state inspired by Florida. Its most recognizable location is Vice City, Rockstar's modern interpretation of Miami.
However, the game world extends far beyond the city. Players can explore beaches, swamps, highways, smaller towns, and other environments across the state.
The story follows two main characters, Jason and Lucia, a criminal duo whose lives become increasingly complicated after a seemingly straightforward job turns into a dangerous conspiracy.
Players will be able to switch between the protagonists while experiencing missions involving:
High-speed driving and vehicle chases.
Shootouts and criminal confrontations.
Heists and story-driven missions.
Exploration across the open world.
Interactions with the characters and environments of Leonida.
GTA VI is the first major new entry in the mainline series since Grand Theft Auto V arrived in 2013. Its predecessor remains one of Take-Two's biggest commercial successes, having generated an extraordinary $800 million in revenue during its first 24 hours.
After multiple changes to its release schedule, GTA VI is finally approaching its November 19 launch. The game was initially expected in fall 2025, moved to May 26, 2026, and was subsequently delayed to its current November date to give Rockstar additional development and polishing time.
Win a PS5 Pro With the PlayToEarn Blockchain Game Awards
Interestingly, the excitement surrounding GTA VI has also reached the blockchain gaming community.
The PlayToEarn Blockchain Game Awards 2026 gives players an opportunity to participate in recognizing projects and developers across the blockchain gaming industry. Everyone who casts a vote is automatically entered into a prize draw featuring several rewards, including a PlayStation 5 Pro bundled with GTA VI.
Voting covers 18 categories and remains open until November 13. The final results are scheduled to be revealed on November 16, just three days before Rockstar's new adventure launches.
Interested players can participate through the official awards page at PlayToEarn Blockchain Game Awards 2026.
For the blockchain gaming community, events like these offer another opportunity to bring traditional gaming audiences and Web3 enthusiasts together. While GTA VI itself is not being announced as a blockchain game, its launch creates an interesting moment for the wider gaming industry.
GTA VI Is Almost Ready to Take Over 2026
With pre-loading starting November 10, digital pre-orders approaching the Cyberpunk 2077 record, and the November 19 launch date getting closer, the final countdown for GTA VI is officially underway.
Players should make sure their consoles have enough available storage and that their pre-orders are ready before the download window opens.
Meanwhile, Take-Two's upcoming earnings report and the growing number of real-world promotional events will keep the community busy during the final days of anticipation.
After more than a decade since GTA V, Rockstar is preparing to bring players back to Vice City. If the current pre-order estimates are any indication, GTA VI could become one of the biggest video game launches ever.
