GTA 6 as the Next Creator-Driven Metaverse Experience

Grand Theft Auto 6

A new report suggests that Rockstar Games is planning to turn Grand Theft Auto 6 into more than just another sequel—it could be a massive creator-driven platform. The studio has allegedly been in talks with leading Fortnite and Roblox creators to bring user-generated content (UGC) into the game.

Could this mean GTA 6 is Rockstar’s answer to the metaverse? Let's break it down.

A Creator-Driven Evolution for GTA 6

Rockstar has always been at the forefront of innovation in open-world gaming, but GTA 6 might push things even further. Reports indicate that the studio wants to allow players to create and modify in-game assets, much like what's already happening in games like blockchain games, Roblox, and Fortnite.

The move comes after Rockstar’s 2023 acquisition of Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM, popular modding platforms that allow custom multiplayer servers in GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. These modding communities have kept GTA 5 alive for over a decade, and Rockstar's purchase suggests they want to bring that same user-generated experience into GTA 6 officially.

Why UGC in GTA 6 Makes Sense

User-generated content has become one of the biggest trends in gaming. Platforms like Roblox and Fortnite have built thriving ecosystems where players create, share, and even monetize their content. If GTA 6 follows this path, it could become one of the most advanced UGC-powered games ever.

According to Pete Basgen, gaming and esports lead for WPP agency Wavemaker:

"It is my firm belief that the reason they purchased FiveM is exactly that—to spin up a metaversal universe of custom-built experiences, and potentially UGC items, with an attached UGC creator economy."

If true, this means GTA 6 won't just be about Rockstar’s storytelling—it’ll be a world where players can shape their own experiences.

How Will Creators Benefit?

While the exact details remain unclear, Rockstar's reported discussions with UGC creators suggest a shift toward a creator economy. In games like Roblox and Fortnite, developers can earn money through in-game purchases, subscriptions, and brand partnerships. If Rockstar introduces a similar model, it could mean real earnings for creators inside GTA 6.

However, Digiday reports that Rockstar’s talks have been "relatively open-ended" so far, leaving the question of monetization unanswered. Will creators be able to sell custom in-game items or charge for unique experiences? That remains to be seen.

Could GTA 6 Feature Real-World Brands?

One of the most surprising rumors is that Rockstar might finally embrace real-world branding. Traditionally, the GTA series has featured fictional parodies of real-world brands—think Sprunk instead of Sprite or Krapea instead of IKEA. But with a reported $2 billion budget, Rockstar may be more open to brand partnerships this time.

If GTA 6 does introduce brand collaborations, it could follow the Fortnite model, where companies like Nike, Marvel, and Balenciaga have set up in-game experiences. This would align perfectly with the UGC-driven approach, allowing creators and brands to collaborate on custom content inside GTA 6.

What Happens to GTA Online?

A major question is how this new creator-driven approach will affect GTA Online, which remains one of the most profitable live-service games in history. Right now, FiveM servers operate with their own monetization models, charging subscription fees ranging from $25 to $100 per month for exclusive in-game perks.

In contrast, Roblox and Fortnite rely on item sales instead of subscriptions. If Rockstar fully integrates UGC into GTA 6, we could see a hybrid model that combines both revenue streams—subscription-based servers alongside microtransaction-driven content.

When Will GTA 6 Launch?

Rockstar has confirmed that GTA 6 is set for a Fall 2025 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a PC version expected in 2026. But details on how UGC will function remain speculative.

With the gaming industry moving rapidly toward creator-driven experiences, it's entirely possible that GTA 6 will become the ultimate open-world sandbox—one where players, brands, and developers collaborate to build an evolving digital universe.

Will Rockstar revolutionize gaming once again? If these reports are accurate, GTA 6 might just be the next big metaverse experience. Stay tuned for more updates!
