Yuga Labs and Amazon Join Forces for Boximus NFT Drop

Yuga Labs

A New Chapter for Bored Apes and the Metaverse

Big things are happening in the world of blockchain games — and this time, Yuga Labs, the creators of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), are teaming up with none other than Amazon. The duo is preparing to release a limited Voyager avatar called Boximus, a playable NFT character that ties directly into Yuga’s ambitious metaverse game, Otherside.

Set to drop on October 30 via Amazon Gaming, Boximus is more than just another NFT. It’s a strategic move designed to bring Yuga’s metaverse vision to a global audience just before the launch of the Koda Nexus — the long-awaited social hub inside Otherside, arriving November 12.

Amazon Meets the Metaverse

For the first time ever, Yuga Labs will feature its NFT collection directly on Amazon’s Gaming front page. This kind of mainstream visibility is massive. Amazon boasts over 300 million users, and this collaboration gives millions of gamers a front-row seat to the evolving world of blockchain gaming.

At ApeFest Las Vegas, Yuga Labs’ Chief Creative Officer Michael Figge shared his excitement:

“Amazon has over 300 million users, and we’re going to be selling digital assets to all of them.”

This partnership reflects Yuga’s broader vision — to push blockchain-powered experiences beyond niche crypto communities and into the hands of everyday players.

What Exactly Is the Koda Nexus?

The Koda Nexus is more than just another virtual hub — it’s the beating heart of the Otherside metaverse. Think of it as the central meeting place where players gather, socialize, and explore the first layer of a massive, multi-tiered world.

Yuga Labs describes Otherside as a three-layer experience:

  1. The Nexus – a living social world for interaction and exploration.

  2. Gameplay Layer – featuring quests, battles, and player-driven events.

  3. The Otherside Development Kit (ODK) – powerful creation tools that let users design and publish content inside the game.

With the Nexus opening in November, the community finally gets to experience what’s been in development since 2022 — and Boximus will be one of the first avatars players can bring into this expanding universe.

How Yuga Labs Is Redefining the Metaverse

Since its explosive start with Otherdeed NFT land sales (which famously brought in over $560 million in 24 hours), Yuga Labs has consistently pushed technical limits. Those early land sales even clogged the Ethereum network, prompting Yuga to issue refunds for excessive gas fees — a rare gesture of goodwill in the crypto world.

From massive early playtests like “First Trip” and “Second Trip” to record-breaking experiments such as Project Dragon — which saw over 2,100 players in a single server, setting a Guinness World Record — Yuga has proven Otherside can handle large-scale multiplayer environments.

More recently, Yuga has streamlined its focus by selling off other NFT IPs like Meebits, Moonbirds, and CryptoPunks, doubling down on BAYC and Otherside as its core brands. This renewed focus shows a clear vision: to make Otherside the premier metaverse destination.

Boximus and the Voyager Avatars

Boximus isn’t just a collectible — it’s a playable character. As part of the Voyager series, these avatars let players walk, explore, and interact across Otherside’s vast digital landscape. The Amazon partnership makes Boximus a unique bridge between traditional retail and blockchain gaming, bringing mainstream accessibility to a Web3 ecosystem.

Players who grab the Boximus NFT through Amazon will be able to use it inside the Koda Nexus once it launches. It’s a clever way to onboard non-crypto gamers, giving them a familiar e-commerce experience while introducing them to metaverse ownership.

Yuga Labs is also collaborating with artist Daniel Arsham on a limited 300-piece Voyager collection, where each avatar evolves over time — blending fine art, storytelling, and gameplay in a way that only blockchain technology can make possible.

Building Tools for the Next Generation of Creators

A big part of Otherside’s vision is to empower its community to create, not just play. That’s where the Otherside Development Kit (ODK) comes in.

Unveiled in June 2025, the ODK lets players build 3D environments using AI-powered commands. Imagine typing “add a mountain” or “make the sky pink,” and watching your world update in real-time. It’s an intuitive step toward user-generated blockchain content, making game creation as easy as chatting.

The ODK comes loaded with nearly 1,000 assets from 29 biomes, giving creators the tools to build anything from lush jungles to neon sci-fi cities. Landowners — those holding Otherdeeds NFTs — will also get special creation tools to make emotes, graffiti, and small interactive props.

And in true Web3 spirit, all creations are royalty-protected, allowing builders to earn revenue while keeping ownership of their digital assets.

A Busy Road Ahead for Otherside

Yuga Labs hasn’t slowed down on testing and expanding Otherside’s features. Over the summer, the team hosted several events to engage players and fine-tune the experience:

  • Bathroom Blitz – an 8v8 shooter set in a BAYC-inspired environment.

  • Meet Me at the Clubhouse – a massive social hangout for up to 500 players.

  • Otherside Outbreak – a stress test mode that rewarded participants with Voyager XP.

Looking ahead, the 2025 roadmap promises even more. The release of Voyager 2.0 and expanded Otherdeed utility will allow players to craft, host events, and manage in-game resources. By 2026, Otherside will introduce ApeChain, its own blockchain layer, to power NFTs, gameplay tokens, and a full-fledged in-game economy built around $APE.

The Future Starts with Boximus

The Boximus NFT drop on October 30 marks a turning point for blockchain gaming. It’s not just an exclusive digital collectible — it’s a signal that mainstream platforms like Amazon are ready to embrace Web3 content.

With the Koda Nexus opening in November and a growing ecosystem of player-driven experiences, Yuga Labs is positioning Otherside as a metaverse that’s social, scalable, and creator-friendly.

The journey of the Voyagers is just beginning — and for millions of new players, Boximus might be their very first step into the Otherside.
