A Fresh Start for a Fan-Favorite Arena Shooter
Dutch studio GAMEDIA has officially relaunched Spider Tanks under a brand-new title — Cores of Chaos — bringing the game back into the spotlight with a polished, modern, and fully streamlined experience. Now live on Immutable Play, the revamped game is available across the Epic Games Store, App Store, and Google Play, making it easier than ever for new players to jump in.
The relaunch is more than just a rebrand. Cores of Chaos is a complete rebuild of the original arena shooter, designed to eliminate barriers that once made the game intimidating for newcomers. No NFTs, no wallets, no external setup — just download, log in, and play.
For anyone following the evolution of blockchain games, this shift marks a major milestone in how web3 titles approach accessibility.
A Reworked Experience from Top to Bottom
While the core PvP tank-battling action remains familiar, virtually everything else has been reimagined. GAMEDIA has treated the relaunch as a full clean slate, refining mechanics, revamping progression, and designing new systems that support long-term engagement.
Players no longer need to purchase or mint game assets before entering a match. Instead, progression now happens through gameplay. Win battles, collect rewards, and unlock new tanks, weapons, and components naturally as you play. It’s a refreshing return to classic gaming values — skill, progression, and experimentation.
The new version launched globally on December 8, and is playable on Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac, giving players more flexibility than ever before.
Improved Controls, Smoother Movement, and Deeper Combat
One of the biggest improvements comes in the form of controls and combat feel. Movement is more responsive, tank steering is smoother, and weapons now come with new tactical roles. That means players can experiment with setups that match their personal style — long-range snipers, high-speed flankers, heavy-defense bruisers, or quirky hybrid builds.
The arenas themselves have also received attention. Some maps introduce new hazards and obstacles, while others hide environmental triggers or special events that can shift the flow of a match. These subtle additions create more dynamic and unpredictable battles.
A Dramatic Break from Gala Games
The launch of Cores of Chaos also represents a major turning point in the game’s history. Originally released in 2021 under Gala Games, Spider Tanks was one of the early titles attempting to merge multiplayer action with blockchain systems. But behind the scenes, tension between the two companies grew.
According to GAMEDIA, Gala did not fulfill promised publishing and marketing support, leaving the studio to handle community management, trailers, events, and promotional work on its own. The conflict escalated into a lawsuit, with Gala attempting to claim ownership of the Spider Tanks IP.
In September 2024, the Central District Court of California dismissed the case due to lack of jurisdiction — a ruling that freed GAMEDIA to continue development independently. That ruling paved the way for the refreshed version that players have now.
Joining Immutable Play: Optional Web3, Unlimited Access
After separating from Gala, GAMEDIA partnered with Immutable, one of the leading web3 gaming infrastructures built on Ethereum Layer 2. But importantly, Cores of Chaos does not require blockchain involvement to play.
Players can join using Immutable Passport, a login system that supports standard social accounts like Google or Apple. From there, you can decide whether you want to explore web3 features or ignore them entirely.
Those who do want blockchain rewards can complete quests through Immutable Play, earning Immutable Gems used in weekly prize draws. This hybrid approach — optional blockchain, universal access — reflects a growing trend among modern blockchain games.
Gala Assets Are Not Supported — And Here’s Why
One of the most significant changes is that Gala-related NFTs, tank parts, and the $SILK token will not carry over into the new version. GAMEDIA explained that these assets were created and managed by Gala, making them legally and technically incompatible with Cores of Chaos.
Additionally, importing external NFTs could disrupt the game’s balance. Since the relaunch aims for fair, progression-based gameplay, bringing in existing assets could undermine that foundation.
Still, GAMEDIA promises to honor long-time supporters. Early players may receive exclusive cosmetic rewards or recognition items — perks that won’t affect gameplay but will highlight their loyalty.
How to Download and Start Playing
Cores of Chaos is now available across all major platforms:
iOS: App Store
Android: Google Play
Windows & Mac: Epic Games Store
After installing, simply log in through Immutable Passport using your preferred social login. Your progress and rewards sync automatically through Immutable Play, making it easy to hop between devices.
Where to Connect with the Community
The official Discord server serves as the main gathering hub for players, offering channels for matchmaking, updates, bug reports, and feedback. GAMEDIA also posts regular updates on X.
While there’s no formal roadmap yet, the team has indicated that community feedback will shape upcoming updates. New tanks, limited-time events, fresh modes, and experimental mechanics are all on the table.
A New Direction That Prioritizes Players First
Cores of Chaos represents a major evolution in the world of hybrid gaming experiences. By focusing on fast action, ease of access, and optional onchain systems, GAMEDIA is positioning the game for a broader audience while still supporting web3-curious players.
Whether the game expands with deeper blockchain integrations or remains a primarily traditional arena shooter will depend on how its growing community responds. For now, one thing is clear: Spider Tanks is back — and this time, it’s on its own terms.
