Spellborne Season 2 Brings Skill-Based Rewards and New Mutations

Spellborne Season 2

What Is Spellborne?

Spellborne is an indie free-to-play MMORPG from Mon Studios that fuses retro-styled monster catching with farming, crafting, guild play, and competitive turn-based battles. Think Pokémon-inspired exploration in a nostalgic 2D fantasy world, but with modern systems that let players join guilds, battle in PvP leagues, and take part in seasonal events.

What makes Spellborne stand out is its flexible approach to blockchain games. Players can dive into NFTs and tokens if they want, trading monsters, apartments, and cosmetics on-chain. But they don’t have to—core gameplay like exploration, crafting, and story progression is fully accessible without touching blockchain features. It’s an accessible mix for traditional web2 players while still rewarding those who want to explore web3 mechanics.

Season 2 Update Overview

This week, Mon Studios is rolling out Spellborne’s highly anticipated Season 2 update. The main goal? Shift the focus away from endless grinding and instead reward players who bring real skill to the table.

The update also introduces four new Stage 3 monster mutations designed to shake up PvP combat:

  • Pixiu

  • Megabara

  • Lupin

  • Nuking

These evolutions are unlocked through special PvP chest items such as the Leaf Crown, Ribbon Bow, Crystal Flower, and Forced Upgradation Device. If you’ve got the right monster and the matching item, you’ll be able to unlock a powerful new form ready to dominate the battlefield.

Skill Over Grind – How Gameplay Points Are Changing

Until now, many players relied on catching monsters to rack up gameplay points. That strategy won’t cut it anymore. With Season 2, monster-catching rewards have been reduced to just 1 gameplay point per catch.

Instead, gameplay points are now tied to PvP chest openings. The rarer the chest, the more points you earn. Task Board missions and store purchases still provide points, but the overall system is being rebalanced to ensure that progression reflects skill-based play rather than repetitive farming.

This means the best way forward is to refine strategies, participate in PvP, and actively engage with the game’s challenges rather than leaning on passive grinding.

New Mutations Coming Next Week

The developers aren’t stopping at four new evolutions. According to official notes, next week will bring even more Stage 3 mutations:

  • Entomore

  • Quinbee

  • Manatoll

  • Wormeta

On top of that, players will soon be able to purchase gold nuggets directly using ETH, USDC, or the game’s $BORNE token. Discounts will apply for those using staked $BORNE, and chests can also be sped up with $BORNE on Avalanche, with Abstract support on the way.

How to Play and Earn in Spellborne

For those interested in the play-to-earn ecosystem, Spellborne offers several options:

  1. Monster Collection & Trading – Mons can be minted as NFTs and sold on marketplaces like OpenSea through the official Avalanche collection. Items, cosmetics, and crafting resources can also be traded.

  2. Competitive PvP – Ranked battles reward top performers with PvP chests containing $BORNE tokens. Seasonal events and leaderboards create additional earning opportunities.

  3. Guild Play & Wars – Guilds fight for control of markets and territory. In past events, such as the Enchanted Guild Wars, players competed for a massive 250k $BORNE prize pool.

  4. Guild Marketplaces – With Kanta the Trader managing trade routes, guilds can operate their own market hubs, setting fees and offering exclusive perks like discounts and custom cosmetics.

This blend of casual collecting, competitive battling, and community-driven economies makes Spellborne a strong example of how blockchain gaming can merge fun with meaningful rewards.

The Role of $BORNE Token

Launched on August 29, the $BORNE token is central to Spellborne’s growing web3 ecosystem. While it’s not a governance token, it provides utility across multiple games within Mon Studios’ future projects.

In Spellborne itself, $BORNE is used for PvP chest acceleration, purchasing gold nuggets, and accessing premium features. With cross-game integration planned, it’s designed to be more than just another in-game currency—it’s a key to the studio’s broader web3 network.

Where Can You Play Spellborne?

Since its official mobile launch in July 2025, Spellborne is available on both Android (Google Play Store) and iOS (Apple App Store). For those who prefer desktop, the game can be played via browser with an upcoming release on the Epic Games Store for both Windows and Mac.

This cross-platform approach makes it easy for players to hop in, whether they’re exploring the world casually or diving deep into PvP competition.

Final Thoughts

Spellborne’s Season 2 update marks an important shift for the game, moving away from grind-heavy mechanics and toward skill-based rewards. With new monster evolutions, revamped point systems, and more blockchain-powered earning opportunities, it’s clear that Mon Studios is serious about keeping the experience fresh for both casual and competitive players.

For fans of monster-catching RPGs looking for a modern twist—and for those curious about the future of blockchain games—Spellborne continues to be a title worth watching and playing.
