Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 is almost here, and Epic Games is preparing one of the most game-packed updates of Chapter 7 so far. Called Override, the new season launches on August 20, 2026, bringing Gaming Legends collaborations, fresh map locations, new Sprites, powerful weapons, and an entirely new Cartridge mechanic that can affect every player in a match.
For fans of blockchain games, Fortnite's continued experimentation with collectible characters, crossover content, and evolving gameplay systems is also worth watching. Here's everything players need to know from the early Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 patch notes.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Release Time
Override officially begins on August 20, with Fortnite servers expected to go offline at approximately 2 AM ET for maintenance. Downtime should last around four to six hours, putting the season's expected launch at roughly 8 AM ET.
That means players will have plenty of time to prepare before jumping into the new island. As always, launch-day conditions can change if maintenance takes longer than expected, but the early patch notes already reveal a substantial amount of content waiting on the other side.
The best strategy? Update the game as soon as possible and get ready to explore before the busiest launch-day crowds arrive.

The Override Battle Pass Brings Gaming Legends
The Chapter 7 Season 4 Battle Pass is built around a Gaming Legends theme, making it one of the most recognizable crossover-focused passes in recent Fortnite history.
Two named characters have already been confirmed: Geno and Sonic. They will be joined by several other characters and designs, including:
A Warrior equipped with a sword and shield
A Soldier-themed skin
A Kart Racer Girl
An Original Fighter
A new original Chapter 7 Season 4 character
A Tetris-themed skin
A brand-new Sidekick
The combination of original Fortnite designs and recognizable gaming-inspired characters gives the Override Battle Pass plenty of variety. Sonic, in particular, could become one of the season's standout additions thanks to the wider Sonic content arriving across the island.

Five New POIs Change the Fortnite Map
The island is getting a significant makeover when Override begins. Three existing POIs will disappear:
Calamari Canyon
Frosted Flats
Sinister Strip
In their place, five new locations will arrive:
Geno's HQ
Sonic Green Hills Zone
Temple
Spire
Pac-Man Island
Interestingly, these locations are all positioned around the enormous Spire, which takes over the central position previously occupied by the Zero Point.
The surrounding area also receives a brand-new biome featuring distinctive pink-colored trees. Importantly, no existing biomes are being removed. Instead, Season 4 expands the island with additional environmental variety.
Several familiar locations will remain available, including Lifty Lodge, Battlewoods, Latte Landing, Wonkeeland, Golden Grove, Shaken Sanctuary, Cluster Coast, Sunken Shores, Heatwave Harbor, and Chopped Shop.
Eight New Sprites Join the Island
Sprites are becoming an increasingly important part of Fortnite, and Season 4 expands the system with eight new Sprites.
The confirmed lineup includes:
Bushranger
Sonic
Tails
Jazz Jackrabbit
Klombo
Killswitch
Crown
Unknown Sprite
Some of these additions could have a major effect on mobility. The Tails Sprite, for example, allows players to glide through the air, while the Sonic Sprite is expected to provide a significant speed boost.
The existing Sprite systems aren't going anywhere either. Sprite Chests and Extraction Gizmos will carry over from Season 3.
Players should also visit the Sprite Garden after entering the new season. It's the perfect place to meet both returning and newly introduced Sprites.
New Weapons Add More Gaming Power
Three major weapons are entering the loot pool with Override, and each fits the season's Gaming Legends identity.
The 8-bit Shotgun is designed for close-range combat and features interchangeable cartridges that can provide different buffs.
Meanwhile, the HJSH-18 Masamune Assault Rifle arrives as part of the Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners crossover. It can be dual-wielded, giving aggressive players another way to dominate close and medium-range fights.
The TKI-20 Shingen SMG can also be dual-wielded alongside the Masamune AR, creating an interesting combination for players who prefer fast-paced combat.
Three New Mythic and Crossover Items
The launch-day content doesn't stop with the standard weapons. Three special collaboration items are also scheduled to arrive on August 20.
The Sonic Spin Dash Mythic lets players move at incredible speed and even run vertically across surfaces. That's likely to make Sonic-themed mobility particularly valuable during fights and rotations.
The Tetriminos Junk Rift brings Tetris into Fortnite by summoning Tetris blocks in a similar fashion to a traditional Junk Rift.
Finally, the Mega Man Mythic works like a hand cannon and includes a chargeable special attack, giving players another powerful option for combat.
How the New Cartridge Mechanic Works
Perhaps the most interesting gameplay addition is the brand-new Cartridge mechanic.
During every match, players can discover a Cartridge and insert it into a designated system. Doing so activates a special buff that affects everyone on the island.
The mechanic becomes even more interesting because the Cartridge can be replaced once per match. Replacing it triggers a second island-wide buff, meaning the match can effectively experience two different global effects.
The biggest twist is that these benefits aren't limited by teams. Every player receives the effect simultaneously, regardless of which side they're fighting for.
This could create some fascinating strategic moments. A team may benefit from a global effect just as much as its opponents, forcing players to adapt rather than simply controlling the mechanic for themselves.
What to Expect From Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Override launches on August 20 at approximately 8 AM ET, following scheduled server maintenance.
From the first day, players can expect:
Eight new Sprites
Five new POIs
Three new weapons
Three major crossover items
A new Cartridge gameplay mechanic
A Gaming Legends Battle Pass
Sonic, Tetris, Mega Man, and Cyberpunk 2077 content
With the Spire replacing the Zero Point and a colorful new biome surrounding the center of the island, Season 4 should feel noticeably different from the moment players drop in.
For returning players, checking out the Sprite Garden should be one of the first priorities. For everyone else, getting into a match early could be the best way to experience the new island before the landing zones become completely packed.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 is shaping up to be a major Gaming Legends celebration, and Override could give Chapter 7 one of its most chaotic and entertaining updates yet.
