Anichess M8 Claims End September 13

Anichess

Anichess players have an important deadline approaching. The spell-powered chess game has asked its community to claim all accumulated M8 from both staking pools by Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 23:59 UTC.

The deadline is tied to Anichess completing its return to Base, bringing staking, claims, liquidity, and trading back onto the same network after almost a year on Abstract. For players with unclaimed M8, this is more than a routine migration notice. Once the transition closes, unclaimed balances will need to be moved beforehand.

Players Need to Claim From Both Pools

The most important detail is that both staking pools are included in the deadline.

If a player has M8 accumulated across multiple staking positions, claiming from one pool does not automatically handle the other. Each position needs to be checked and claimed separately before the September 13 cutoff.

Anichess has therefore issued an action-required notice rather than treating the migration as something that happens entirely in the background.

The earlier opt-in phase already closed on September 7 at 23:59 UTC. Players could confirm their participation through the migration banner inside the game or via the same option on the Anichess homepage.

Now, the focus is on making sure any remaining M8 balances are claimed before the final deadline.

Why Anichess Is Moving Back to Base

The migration brings an end to a somewhat complicated setup that has existed since late 2025.

Anichess originally launched on Base in April 2025. After the CHECK token launched in November 2025, M8 accumulation shifted to Abstract, allowing staking and claims to operate there. Meanwhile, liquidity and trading remained on Base through Aerodrome Finance.

In practice, this meant players were dealing with two networks for different parts of the same game economy.

For experienced blockchain users, bridging assets between chains might be routine. For everyone else, however, every additional network, wallet interaction, or bridging step creates another potential point of friction.

The return to Base simplifies that structure. Once completed, staking, M8 claims, liquidity, and trading will be consolidated on one network.

That should make the game's economy easier to understand and navigate, particularly for players who are interested in the competitive side without wanting to become experts in cross-chain asset management.

What Exactly Is M8?

M8 is an important part of the Anichess economy, but it is easy to misunderstand what it actually represents.

Unlike CHECK, M8 is not a token that players can simply purchase. Instead, it functions as Anichess's onchain points layer.

There are two primary ways to accumulate it.

  • Play Standard matches: Completing 15 Standard matches during a week earns M8, with rewards scaling according to the player's rating class.

  • Stake CHECK: Players staking CHECK can generate M8 passively alongside their staked position.

This makes M8 particularly interesting because it connects gameplay and blockchain participation. Players cannot simply buy their way into a larger M8 balance. They need to either play or commit CHECK through staking.

M8 Connects Gameplay With Checkmate Arena

The importance of M8 becomes even clearer when looking at Checkmate Arena.

M8 can be converted into entry tickets for the weekly competitive event, where 50 players compete for a minimum of 500 CHECK each.

That gives the points layer a practical role in Anichess's reward ecosystem. Rather than being just another number displayed in a player's account, M8 acts as a bridge between regular activity and competitive opportunities.

It also explains why the September 13 deadline deserves attention.

An unclaimed M8 balance represents time spent playing matches or capital committed through CHECK staking. Since M8 cannot simply be purchased on the open market, players cannot necessarily replace a forgotten balance by heading to a decentralized exchange.

For active players, leaving M8 behind would effectively mean walking away from rewards they have already earned.

Anichess Brings a Magical Twist to Chess

For anyone unfamiliar with the game, Anichess takes the familiar rules of chess and adds a magical layer through spells.

The basic chess foundation remains recognizable, but spells can alter how pieces behave and create situations that would never appear on a traditional chessboard. This makes Anichess approachable for chess fans while giving experienced players an entirely new strategic layer to learn.

The game is free to play and available on Android, iOS, and Windows, with NFT support adding a blockchain component to the experience.

The project was founded by Animoca Brands and operates in partnership with Chess.com, giving it access to a broader chess audience than many blockchain gaming projects can reach.

For players interested in the wider evolution of blockchain games and Web3 gaming, Anichess is an interesting example of how traditional competitive games can be combined with onchain systems without replacing their core gameplay.

CHECK Remains at the Center of the Economy

While M8 serves as the game's points layer, CHECK remains the primary ecosystem token.

The token has a maximum supply of 1 billion CHECK, with 59.38% allocated toward ecosystem growth and player rewards. CHECK can be used for tournament participation, staking, in-game purchases, and governance.

The token also expanded its mainstream exposure after being listed on Coinbase on April 2, 2026.

Competitive content remains a major part of the game's roadmap. Anichess's eighth season launched with a 700,000 CHECK prize pool, while Checkmate Arena continues to provide weekly competitive opportunities.

The project also took third place for Best Strategy Game at the Blockchain Game Awards 2025, highlighting its position within the growing blockchain gaming sector.

The September 13 Deadline Is the Key Takeaway

For Anichess players, the immediate priority is simple: check both staking pools and claim any available M8 before September 13 at 23:59 UTC.

The migration itself is designed to make Anichess's economy more straightforward by returning its major blockchain functions to Base. But before that consolidation is complete, players need to make sure their existing M8 balances make the journey.

With M8 powering access to Checkmate Arena and representing rewards earned through gameplay or CHECK staking, there is little reason to leave an eligible balance unclaimed.

The clock is now ticking, and for Anichess players, a quick check of both pools could be one of the most valuable moves to make before the deadline.
